At this time of year it feels like everyone is getting ready to travel. So many of our guests at our London serviced apartments are staying in the capital temporarily so while many will be staying in London for the festive season, plenty will be getting ready to head home to their families for Christmas. All over the world the holidays are always a time of increased travel and London, as one of the world’s biggest transport hubs, is no different. Heathrow and Gatwick have a real buzz as people jet in and jet out from around the globe.
Travel isn’t always fun and glamourous, though, it can be hugely stressful. Travellers last week felt that when an IT glitch grounded flights across the UK. Working with international business travellers throughout the year at Clarendon we know that tempers can be fraught when all you want to do is get to your final destination.
Businesses are slowing down this week, we’re seeing London filled with festive revellers as Christmas parties reach their peak. As schools break up this weekend expect to see plenty of traffic on the roads in and out of London as people head home for Christmas. Always leave plenty of time to travel and know that roads will be busy. No news yet on whether we’ll have dusting of snow so remember to pack rugs, blankets, food and drink in the car if you’re going on a long journey. Have a torch with plenty of batteries and the number of your recovery team if you break down!
London is a real hive of activity at the moment. The streets are filled with festive shoppers and tourists enjoying the UK capital for Christmas. The lights are out and the streets are decked in decorations. Shoppers are trying to finish buying their last bits of festive goodies so the tube network is busier than ever. Stay patient with your fellow passengers. We know that for many of our guests they don’t know the tube as well as a Londoner and when it’s busy they might still find they’re getting lost or disorientated. Always ask for help, especially at peak times and keep your head, even if all around you are losing theirs, Christmas hat or not!
The demands on our planes, trains and automobiles are just part and parcel of the Christmas season. Whether you are in London on business or pleasure enjoy being in the capital. We wish everyone a merry Christmas and a safe onward journey. If you’re staying in London over the holidays know that our staff are on hand for whatever you need between Christmas and New Year.
