Make a night of it at the theatre

London truly is the capital of theatre. Close to some of Clarendon’s serviced apartments there is a stage show waiting to be enjoyed. Whether its musicals, a play, stage show or dancing extravaganza this autumn and winter there’s a full house in terms of programming and enough to suit every taste. Here is Clarendon’s guide for what to see while you’re staying in the capital.

If you want a traditional west end musical experience head to the Piccadilly Theatre for Dirty dancing. Based on the cult 80s classic movie, the stage show takes the audience through the dancing and the music to tell the love story of Jonny and “Baby”. It’s a worldwide smash hit and creates an incredible live experience. Millions have seen the film worldwide and now the stage show is enthralling the movie’s existing fans, as well as introducing new ones to the tale.

Mamma Mia has been a smash hit around the world. With the music and lyrics by Abba’s Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus many saw the Hollywood movie and didn’t want it to end. Set on a Greek island the musical is inspired by Abba songs and tells the story of a mother and daughter, the night before the daughter gets married. It’s hard not to dance in the aisles when numbers like Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia start going and it’s a great night out at the Novello Theatre in Covent Garden, Close to Clarendon’s Chandos Place and Wellington Street serviced apartments.

If pop music is what you are looking for then both We Will Rock You and Thriller Live pay tribute to Queen and Michael Jackson through their music. At the Dominion and the Lyric theatre both give a taste of two titans of music and are a great way for fans to celebrate their sound.

The film version of Les Miserables wowed critics and filmgoers alike. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo the story of love and bravery in 19th century France during the revolution simultaneously makes the audience cheer and cry. In a luscious set at the Queen’s Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, close to Clarendon’s property in West Street, Les Mis is one of the classic west end experiences.

Shakespeare is always a popular theatre experience for visitors to London. The Barbican, Globe and Noel Coward Theatre each of critically acclaimed Shakespeare plays on this season, including Henry V, Richard II and King Lear. Coriolanus is on at the Donmar Warehouse and for those who want something a little lighter both Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night’s Dream are playing at the Old Vic and the Globe respectively.

A night out at the theatre is the perfect antidote to a busy day at the office. The theatre show often starts at 7.30 pm so ideal timing to grab some dinner and then head to see the show. Clarendon has serviced apartments at central locations across to capital, close to tube stations so it’s easy to travel around. We also have an app that can be downloaded allowing you to directly book theatre tickets to the show you want to see.
