Creating a festive home from home

Working away from home during the holidays can be tough, but where other than a serviced apartment could you put up your own tree?

When we think of the holidays we think of being surrounded by family and friends in comfort with a glistening tree. Remember all the Christmas songs that make us think of where we should be spending the festive season; Driving Home for Christmas, Let it Snow – a song all about being in front of a cosy open fire – and I’ll Be Home for Christmas. The problem with that is that if we aren’t at home for Christmas we can feel a little sad and lonely.

When you work remotely it can be difficult to ensure you have time to get back home for Christmas day. Your family could be abroad and particularly when a project is busy it can be hard to manage time off for flights. You might have settled into your temporary home in the capital so well, with plenty of friends nearby that you don’t feel the need to fly home for the holidays.

Even if it’s a choice you’ve made you can still feel that twang when you walk past an open window and see a festive scene inside a living room, or when you see the department stores along Oxford Street draped with homely decorations.

It’s important when you’re working remotely to create a home from home. Ensuring your surroundings are as comfortable, relaxing and meet your needs and lifestyle is vital if you are to settle in, work productively and feel confident in your new city. This is one of the reasons Clarendon works so hard to create a spacious, comfortable and liveable environment in each of our serviced apartments with plenty of living space, fully fitted kitchen, Wi-Fi and all mod cons. And it should be no different at Christmas. By putting up your own tree, even having space in a fully equipped kitchen to cook a Christmas lunch for friends is vital.

It becomes even more important to turn your temporary serviced apartment living space into a home from home if you have relocated. If your new job involved your family moving down to the capital the festive season may begin without you having found a permanent family home. In that case being able to put up and decorate your Christmas tree allows you to feel more relaxed and settled. It enables you to dip in and out of festive events in London while coming back to your snug Christmassy temporary home. It means you can make your own Christmas lunch with all the amenities of a fully versatile kitchen and celebrate in your London home and make the most of it before you move house. It means there is no compromise.

The difference between a hotel and a serviced apartment is the amount of control you have in your living space. In a hotel room over Christmas you wouldn’t be able to put up any decorations or a tree, you’d have to go out for Christmas lunch and meals. You certainly couldn’t entertain in your own abode. Clarendon understands that a temporary home, whether for a short term contract or relocation, is still a home nonetheless and needs to feel like one. Having more space, amenities to make and prepare your own food enables you to enjoy Christmas in the capital while still have a festive place to stay.
