It’s one of the oldest parts of London but don’t let Tower Hill’s history fool you; this is a corner of the capital to get a taste of the contemporary city. If you’re staying in serviced apartments at Tower Hill here’s Clarendon’s suggestion of a day out.
Tower Hill benefits from being close to The City and the Square Mile, home to 250 of the world’s banks and a financial hub. Yet for those staying in a serviced apartment at Savage Gardens or Pepys Street you don’t need to rely on the office to keep you entertained throughout your visit. On your doorstep is a wide range of places to visit to keep you occupied, or to entertain family and friends when they come to visit.
Spend the morning exploring one of the most popular visitor attractions in Tower Hill, The Tower of London. One of the historic royal palaces of London, the tower is famous for having a bloody Tudor history but in fact it was a place where kings and queens lived. Now it houses the Crown jewels. See another iconic site of London while you’re there; the beefeaters who protect its walls and treasures.
Stop off for lunch at the nearby Natural Kitchen. A restaurant, delicatessen or a place to grab food on the go, it’s a great place to stop where you’re serviced fresh and seasonal food. Plenty of healthy homemade salads fill the menu, along with sandwiches, wraps and smoothies with skinny cakes. For tea lovers there is a wide range of flavours to try, including organic rose, Chai, vanilla and aniseed.
In the afternoon visit the Design Museum. On the banks of the Thames the museum houses two floors of contemporary design in all its forms. Displays include fashion, graphic and architectural design. The two main galleries trace the history of design developments, major figures as well as practices and trends. A collection of everyday objects from the 20th and 21st centuries exhibit products we might have around us day to day but in fact are part of a contemporary design movement and are instant classics.
Once evening approaches put your glad rags on and head out for drinks. The Isis Bar and Lounge is the ideal destination. It’s light and airy and its proximity to The City means it’s popular with workers from there. In the evenings it shifts to a bustling and vibrant crowd. There’s a wide range of cocktails, wines and beers as well as bar snacks.
For dinner make a beeline for the Café Spice Namaste. A landmark restaurant in the heart of London it has a contemporary Pan-Asian menu featuring exotic meat and seasonal vegetable dishes. A popular place to dine and visit the restaurant pushes the boundaries of spicy food creating imaginative dishes. The restaurant was Highly Commended in the Sustainable Food category of the 2009 City of London Sustainable Cities Awards.
Clarendon has a variety of serviced apartments in Tower Hill ideal for short term lets. A range of one, two and three bedroom apartments offer a choice of accommodation.
