Business travel tips from Clarendon

Global business travel is increasingly becoming part of any professional role. At Clarendon we see our customers come to stay at our serviced apartments from every corner of the globe. But as with any long haul travel it can be stressful as well as tiring.

Here our Clarendon’s top tips for ensuring you arrive at your business destination ready to do a day’s work.

Take time out – There are some people, weirdly, who complain about the lack of a WiFi connection on most planes. Nonsense, we say, enjoy the time out. It’s so rare in our busy lives to have a chunk of time where no one can contact us and we can’t check our emails or take phone calls from colleagues. Instead sit back, read a book, watch a movie or listen to music. You can take the time to organise your thoughts and think about what you want to achieve from your business trip, or ensure you can hit the ground running when you arrive with a detailed to do list. Once you arrive you won’t stop so enjoy the peace while you have it.

Top up your H2O – The air can be very dry and at a high altitude you find you can get a little more tired. Counter the effect of the air quality by staying topped up with water. There are plenty of distractions on a place but ensure they don’t stop you from drinking plenty of water. Dehydrations is bad for your skin and body. It can leave you tired and lethargic. If you drink plenty of water you’ll feel much fresher once you arrive at your destination, which is important especially if you’re going straight into meetings.

Jet Lag – Everyone will give you different advice because everyone has a different remedy for it. We don’t all react in the same way to crossing time zones. Some will find they are sluggish and lethargic, others aren’t affected by it at all. The simplest thing to do is to match your sleeping pattern to your destination. If you’re arriving very early in the morning try to sleep to ensure you’re on the same body clock as your destination. Similarly if you leave in the night but arrive in the day try to stay awake so you’re acclimatised. That will help you match the right bedtime and working hours while you’re on business. Remember no one is immune to jet lag. Even tennis superstar Serena Williams ordered an espresso while playing a tennis match because she was jet lagged.

Be comfortable – Remember you can always get changed on the plane and apply your makeup or grooming tips before you land. It’s important on a long haul flight that you’re comfortable and can relax and sleep if you need to. Use your carry on to store a smart change of clothes and beauty products like deodorant so you can freshen up before your land. Carry a sleep mask and earplugs if you need to rest and wear baggy clothes that will help you stay comfortable in your seat while you’re flying.

Long haul flights are often part and parcel of business travel. And travel is a vital part of business. Follow our tips and you’re guaranteed to arrive in good humour and ready to start work. Bon Voyage!
