Why is London the most desirable place to work in the world?

A new survey has discovered that a sixth of people in the world want to work in London. The international study, which questioned over 200,000 people in 189 countries, found that London came ahead of New York, Paris, Sydney, Singapore, Rome, Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid and Toronto in the rest of the top ten.

The survey’s commissioners, The Boston Consulting Group and totaljobs.com The Network claim these results strengthen London’s reputation and ranking as a global city. There are numerous factors that contribute to quality of life for those working and living in the capital; London is home to a wide range of cultural attractions from museums, galleries, theatres and world leading cultural institutions like The British Library; its universities are some of the finest educational establishments in the world, including LSE and UCL; there are iconic tourist attractions from Buckingham Palace, London Eye and the Tower of London making the capital world famous and a hotspot for international travellers. Add to that the fact that there are more than 60 restaurants in London with a Michelin star and you have a great place to come and stay.

Yet its position as a tourist trap isn’t the only reason workers want to relocate to London. The UK capital has high salary expectations and a strong finance sector. This promises larger pay packets for young professionals as they climb the career ladder. The growing tech sector in London, and the incentives it offers to multinationals and leaders within the industry like Google, is attracting a new generation of workers.

The UK’s healthcare model, free at the point of use, makes it attractive to professionals across the world. The high standard of health care at London’s world leading hospitals is a major plus for those looking to relocate and take up a job in London, especially if they have families.

London is a big and bustling city but over the past four years projects have been initiated to make it easier to travel across the capital; Crossrail, making it easier to travel from east to west across London as well as HS2 are designed to make city travel less time consuming, greener and to reduce the reliance on cars. London is also home to four major airports, Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and London City Airport, making it easier to travel globally from the city.

When people want to relocate they also want somewhere to live. London has a range of accommodation on offer for those looking to move; from hotels, B&B’s to serviced apartments; ideal for the “relocater” looking for extended stay accommodation there is something for everyone.
