What to see in Staines Upon Thames

Not every business or leisure traveller looking for an extended or short stay apartment wants to be in the centre of London. Instead they are looking for a private location, based at an easy commutable distance from the capital. Clarendon’s Wraysbury Hall on the banks of the River Thames at Staines is just 17 miles from Charing Cross but feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of London. Here is our guide of what to see and do during your stay in Staines.

Thorpe Park is a major visitor attractions based just 15 minutes from Staines Upon Thames. The amusement park is not just a great day out for the whole family but it’s ideal for thrill seekers. Thorpe Park is known for having some of the finest extreme roller-coasters around from SAW to Tidal Wave, Stealth and The Swarm. Not everyone likes a scary ride though, so for those who prefer it a little more sedate opt for the teacups or smaller rides designed for younger children. Make a day of it with the wide range of burger joints and noodle bars on site.

For an attraction that’s a little more refined look no further than Windsor Castle. The official residence of the Queen the original castle was built in the 11th century and has around 13 acres of land. Features for visitors include the magnificent State Apartments which are furnished with treasures from the Royal Collection. St George’s Chapel is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical churches in the country and is the burial place of ten monarchs. The Drawings Gallery features regular exhibitions. You might not be guaranteed tea with the queen but you’ll certainly enjoy a good day out.

Close to Staines is another piece of English history at Runnymede the ancient ‘meeting meadow’ which witnessed King John sealing the Magna Carta, the foundation of English Law in 1215. As well as a slice of ancient culture Runnymede offers stunning views and a river landscape. Memorials around the site note important moments from history.

The “social Hub” of Staines is home to over 50 stores and has enough variety to keep even the most discerning shopper amused with fashion, sports, health, beauty and electrical stores just some of those on offer. Cafes and restaurants help keep you refreshed and there are plenty of events taking place especially for Halloween.
