Will London slip back in terms of financial jobs?

According to the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), the financial pundits are now saying that London has fallen behind New York and could possibly be surpassed by Hong Kong in terms of City financial jobs.

While the collated figures do indeed currently stack up, future predictions that by 2015 London will have fallen into a definitive third place behind the aforementioned two, it’s not all completely doom and gloom. There are only twelve thousand jobs separating the three when they’re considering up to quarter of a million jobs in total in each location as the indicator!

However, companies won’t suddenly begin spending again once the economic climate begins to stabilise. The old maxim of ‘once bitten, twice shy’ will reverberate around many a boardroom for many years to come!

So while there remains the need for companies to grow, irrespective of the economic situation, they must constantly find ways of keeping their costs in check. And for international corporations, that means international co-locations and a need for business travel and accommodation.

Although international travel costs can only be pared back as far as a downsize to economy/standard carriage will allow, accommodation costs in London’s prime locations can be carefully looked at in terms of a cost reduction without impinging on quality.

Clarendon Serviced Apartments offer a range of one, two and three-bedroomed apartments in and around the City of London in locations convenient to the city’s financial and international business hubs – Canary Wharf, Paddington, Marble Arch, Bishopsgate, Barbican area, Tower Hill, the West End, Kensington and Hammersmith as well as more ‘rural’ city locations such as Richmond, Kew and Staines.

Both the corporation’s procurement costs and the inbound executive’s living costs are drastically reduced when using a short and long let serviced apartment. Not only are the rental costs more competitive that an equivalent hotel room offering much less living space, but the incidental day-to-day costs, so often left out of the extended stay cost equation, are much lower.

Did you know, for example, that in a Clarendon Serviced Apartment, telephone, broadband, utilities, multi-channel TV, bed-linen and top-to-tail professional clean are all included? And in the fully-fitted kitchen, the guest will save money (and inconvenience) on cleaning bills by using the included washer and drier?

And not only that, but by purchasing food locally and preparing it in your own kitchen, just like you would if you were at home, not only will you save a fortune on eating out, but will also have the total convenience of eating how and when you want. This will in turn save the company a fortune. And it will also restore an air of total independence to the visiting executive from abroad keen to settle into their own domestic routine as soon as they can after arriving in London.

And this domestic-style quality of life will impact most positively on the executive’s business performance, knowing that he or she can live their lives to mirror that of their life at home.
