Where is the best place to go in London?

Every year millions of visitors flock to London from all over the world. As an international city, many of those looking to spend time in the UK capital are here for business or pleasure. London’s a deeply cultural place with a rich history. It balances that heritage with a modern vibe and a fast-pace that helps it to attract global firms who want to establish their businesses within the city.

This month a survey was published by Visit Britain charting the most popular attractions in the country; the majority are in London and attract a wide variety of people looking to explore its history, culture and modernity.

The British Museum has been crowned again as the UK’s most popular attraction in an 8th consecutive year. The British Museum showcases myriad treasures and artefacts from across the world, from the past to the present day. Free, and open daily, the museum does not simply chart the history of the British Isles but in many ways the world along with western civilisation. The Egyptian Mummies are always a popular draw as are the Roman and Viking artefacts.

Some of the other London attractions which topped the list include; The National Gallery which houses the national collection of paintings from the 13th to the 19th century featuring artists including Monet, Manet, Rembrandt and Turner; The Southbank Centre which hosts various arts exhibitions, music concerts and plenty of food and drink; Tate Modern, the home of contemporary art; The National History and Science Museum with the formidable giant blue whale as well as skeletons, fossils and a whole host of collections from the natural world; the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Tower of London and its gruesome history; Somerset House, which every summer screens films. Most of these attractions are free to enter.

For those visiting London there is never a dull moment. In 2014 the Tower of London showcased one of the most popular installations in its history with the “Field of Poppies” commemorating the war dead of the First World War. Crowds visited the artwork from all over the world.
