Hammersmith – A guide to London’s cultural quarter

Hammersmith is one of the most sought after residential corners of London. It’s not hard to see why as it offers unparalleled lifestyle attractions from theatres, shopping districts, world-class restaurants and a riverside aspect. In Part 1 Clarendon Serviced Apartments explores a part of London where it’s just as fun to live as it is to visit.

Eating In versus Eating Out

One of the benefits of staying at a serviced apartment is that you don’t have to eat out every night. If you’re relocating permanently or just on a temporary basis then eating out in a restaurant every night can be tedious. However, if you’re staying in Hammersmith that dining out isn’t too much of a chore. The district’s diverse population means there are plenty of cuisines you might not have sampled yet. Lola & Simón invite you to test the unusual fusion of Argentinean and New Zealand food. There’s the Polish Malina, Modern Indian Potli, Lebanese Mes Amis with enough to feed even the fussiest of palettes. If you are looking for something a little special than there is always the world renowned River Café.

For those who fancy a tipple instead of dining out then look no further than The Irish Centre on Black’s Road.

Hammersmith’s attractions

Hammersmith’s nightlife is known countrywide. The Apollo has long been a permanent fixture on the tours of the biggest names in entertainment from Russell Brand to Paul Weller, LeAnn Rimes to Selena Gomez. It’s the destination for a big night out.

Yet Hammersmith offers plenty to do during the day as well as at night. From Kings Mall to Westfield there is every brand name and retailer you can think of. Designer labels rub shoulders with high street favourites and independent brands to create an unrivalled shopping experience. Boasting cinemas as well as coffee houses it’s easy to plan a whole day, rather than just a few hours.

For those who prefer their shopping list to be a little more exotic Shepherd’s Bush Market is nearby. Serving both its local Irish and Afro-Caribbean communities the market stocks everything from fresh and cooked foods, yams and exotic fruits. There are also a wide range of music, household goods and furnishings.

For those who have had their fill of retail therapy there is plenty to do outside. Ravenscourt Park covers 13 hectares offering a little slice of paradise in a busy city. Offering plenty to do for families the park has long been a favourite spot for local residents. There’s tennis and basketball courts, play areas for under 5’s, a paddling pool, sandpit and all important café and teahouse.

Another great day out nearby is London Wetlands. The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust covers 100 acres and is the habitat of many different species of bird and fauna. With walks, talks and tours there is a chance to get to know all the inhabitants of the nature reserve from the otters to the pond life.
