Explore historic Clarendon West Street, London

The latest addition to the Clarendon portfolio fold is set on an historic site. The history of West Street dates back to its first references in the 1680s when it was laid out by Nicholas Barbon on the Earl of Newport’s Estate. At first it was known as Hog Lane and was an ancient medieval thoroughfare. Later it was incorporated into Charing Cross Road. In modern times the street has become synonymous with ballet and theatre; Shaftesbury Avenue is just around the corner and it is in the heart of Covent Garden. Over 44 million visitors are attracted to the area each year. And no wonder, there is plenty to keep visitors occupied.

Every visitor, whether it is for business or leisure, needs to eat. There are plenty of restaurants and bars close to Clarendon West Street. Bali Bali is an authentic Indonesian restaurant in London’s West End. It’s classically decorated in a simple and unfussy manor and is attracting a hoard of firm fans. Regional Indonesian dishes are a combination of flavour and heat meaning the chefs need to be able to balance different ingredients delicately. The skill has helped Bali Bali become a firm fixture on London’s dining circuit.

Leon de Bruxelles has built its reputation on serving delicious Belgian specialities. The setting is one of a chic brasserie with marble topped tables and bentwood chairs. Expect classics on the menu including mussels, which are served en cocotte, au gratin and la plancha. Flemish carbonnade and Tomatoe aux crevettes are favourites. The perfect finish to your meal is Belgian waffles with chocolate sauce.

Jamie’s Italians have popped up around the country and are an ideal setting for a light bite or a quick dinner. The menu features simple dishes like prosciutto, wild rocket and sliced crisp pear with, of course, homemade pasta, sourdough rubbed with garlic and parmesan and antipasti. The desserts fuse Jamie Oliver’s Italian and English influences with a Bakewell Tart served with an orange crème fraiche.

For visitors looking for a place to do for a drink after dinner Kettners Champagne Bar may be luxurious but it is wholly unpretentious. There are over 100 champagne producers on the menu from iconic brands to small labels and even an English producer. Try vintage champagnes along with cocktails in fine and classically designed surroundings.

Detroit Bar in the heart of Covent Garden is a trendier cocktail bar with the perfect blend of style and substance. There’s a wide range of music with dimply lit alcoves to enjoy the night with a little privacy. Meanwhile at BYOC it is a unique concept where you bring your own bottle and experienced bartenders will mix the drinks with fresh syrups and bitters, pressed fruits with spices and herbs. It’s a cost-effective and a fun way to have a night out on your own terms.

Travelling from Clarendon West Street is simple. Leicester Square tube station is just a three minute walk away and offers access to the Northern and the Piccadilly Lines. For those wanting to use the Bakerloo Line to access London Waterloo, Charing Cross Station is a 10 minute walk away.
