Chinese firm joins the Shoreditch revolution

The growth of digital firms within London continues with news that the first mainland Chinese firm is set to move into Shoreditch. It’s to be welcomed says Clarendon Serviced Apartments.

The range of high tech firms sprouting up in London’s Shoreditch is well known. The post code, described as “Tech City”, has attracted a wide range of digital firms including creative agencies, app developers, web designers and gaming firms. Now they have a new neighbour with the arrival of Rekoo, China’s biggest social gaming company.

The firm says they will have 10 new members of staff when they open the office. They plan to grow to 25 in three years. The team based in the capital will help Rekoo sell to Europe and will localise content for a western market.

The news of the firm’s arrival comes on the back of Chancellor George Osborne and Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s visit to China this month. With announcements of foreign investors both urged Londoners not to be wary or afraid of Chinese investment in the capital’s infrastructure. The expectation is that as well as digital firms like Rekoo moving to London, there will be other Chinese investors who earmark funding for housing, transport and utilities, boosting the capital’s infrastructure.

The fact that political leaders in the capital have to reinforce the positivity of the Chinese investment suggests wariness or a reticence on behalf of people within the capital to the foreign money. In fact, the investment instead only highlights London’s position as a global powerhouse. With growth firmly on the horizon and the financial downturn clearly in the rear view mirror, London increasingly will be seen as a place to do business successfully and to make money. That investment can’t solely be based in Europe or the UK. As the fastest growing economy in the world, China is undoubtedly going to want to do business in London.

Welcoming foreign investment into the capital can only strengthen London’s ability to do business. Clarendon Serviced Apartments works with businesses looking for a cost-effective and flexible place to stay for long term let. A serviced apartment allows a new hire who is looking for an apartment to stay in while they look for a more permanent place to stay. In The City, Spitalfields and Tower Hill, Clarendon has a wide range of apartments on the doorstep to Shoreditch and the digital firms looking to grow, expand and hire new staff.

Investment and an improved infrastructure can only strengthen the capital’s ability to see the end of the downturn and grow its business. A flexible and cost-effective home from home, which a serviced apartment is, provides an ideal base for those working for a time or moving to London.
