To the south east of Paddington lies Marble Arch, a monument which dates back to 1828. Marble Arch, was originally created as a gateway to Buckingham Palace. Today, it lies in the traffic island at the junction of Oxford Street, Park Lane, and Edgware Road. Within the surrounding area, there is a rich Middle Eastern culture which is optimised by the local restaurants and shops on Edgware Road. Oxford Street, which is referred to as the “mecca for shopaholics”, is also close by and is home to over 300 stores. For those that wish to explore other parts of the city, Marble Arch tube station provides a regular service to the east and west of London via the central line.
